Supporting Fun and Future Engineers

in SolidWorks November 6, 2018

Movement Park is a Glasgow based charity that uses sport and movement-based activities to enhance the lives of the local community. Amongst the variety of physical activities they offer, the team is working with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde to add a new design and programming element to the mix.

TMS is delighted to be involved with this project and has donated several workstations which will be used by the Movement Park kids to further their digital knowledge and understanding. They will also have access to SOLIDWORKS® Apps for Kids, a browser-based design suite for 4-14-year olds.

SOLIDWORKS® Apps for Kids is an ecosystem of apps designed to inspire and educate. The apps break down the design and engineering process into bite-sized tools to create, style, design and engineer a concept and then present and share it with others.

To decide what apps to create, SOLIDWORKS looked at its current portfolio and how its customers are creating products today. Although each SOLIDWORKS customer is different, many follow a similar core workflow to take an idea from concept through to manufacture.

With SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids, SOLIDWORKS took this workflow, simplified it and then used it as a foundation on which each app is created. SOLIDWORKS chose four steps of the workflow to start with: ideation, creation, enhancement, and production. Once a child is signed in to SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids, they can see 1000’s of creations that other kids have made and shared. Kids can not only invent their own creations, but they can also “Riff” any of the public models to create their very own version.
